Berlin 2048 – Our planet stands on the brink. Resources are diminishing quickly; pollution threatens health; crimes multiply; violence increases exponentially. Governments and corporations offer hope through technological progress but none has managed to deliver. Richard Nolan stands out among journalists by publicly opposing this trend of technology replacing people in public service roles through drones and humanoid robots, angering many observers who see this development. Richard wakes to find both of his family members have vanished after an explosion – which propels him into an intense debate between competing theories on humanity’s fate, which range from dystopia to digital utopia. As opposed to remaining on the outside looking in, they find themselves at its center. Their domestic drama quickly evolves into an international conspiracy thriller: at its center is an attempt to understand if digital utopia offers salvation; or whether teaching generosity to AI may serve us better by showing it the value of cooperation rather than declaring us expendable due to lack empathy in its programming. What will our world look like after this storm has passed; will humanity survive unscathed?
